Similar to prefab homes, prefab ponds are built in a factory and shipped to a building site, where they are installed according to local regulations. The main difference between prefab ponds and those that require a liner is the ultimate shape of the pond. Additionally, a pond with a liner is more prone to liner damage that can drain the pond quickly. In an area with owls, putting fish in a pond can attract the birds looking for food and their talons can make quick work of a rubber or plastic liner.

When installing prefab ponds the proper size hole to be made, depending on the size of the pond, can be determined by turning it upside down and marking the ground. If the pond has different levels on the bottom, the depths can be estimated, always digging deeper than the guess, and then sand can be placed in the bottom of the hole. Once the prefab pond’s liner is set in the hole, check its level and then remove it and adjust the sand in the bottom until it is level to keep water from flowing out of one side while the other side is still low.

For lined ponds, once the hole is dug out, the liner can be laid over the hole and filled with water. It will naturally assume the shape of the hole underneath with no adjustments needed to make it level. While this type may be considerably easier to install than prefab ponds, they are also easier to damage during installation as well as while being used.

Accessories Made To Attach To Prefab Ponds

Using pumps and filtering systems in a pond, most are designed to attach to prefab ponds and fitting them to a liner pond will require some additional attachments driven into the ground to hold them in place. While the liner pond will present a more natural appearance, is constructed right with the right mix of accessories on the outer edges, prefab ponds will also appear natural.

Another advantage to prefab ponds is damage repairs can be made easily as compared to break in a liner of a pond. Since the only backing to a liner is the ground, finding a flat spot at which to repair a hole or tear in the lining, may be difficult without removing a large portion of the liner. With prefab ponds fiberglass repair kits, usable underwater can be used to repair any holes that may develop in the pond.

Gardening is one of the most therapeutic hobbies that one could venture into and aside from the fact that it could get you busy; there are also many benefits that you could derive from having your own flower garden. Not only they help beautify or revamp the dull looks of your yard, but they also make you feel closer to nature and help you appreciate God’s wonderful creations

That is why it is so important that you take the time out to analyze and strategize for your own flower garden design. Here are helpful suggestions for your flower garden design so just sit and relax and think only of the best look that you want for your own yard.

Design Tips

Some people who are in to gardening did not make their own flower garden design when they were just starting and only did the strategy of buying plants and was left with a big question, just wondering where to put them after. Because of this, some gardening enthusiasts attest that taking the time out for designing your flower garden is really important because it is as complicated or artistically complex as arranging your own home furniture. And of course, you only want what is best for your garden, right? And you want them to be coordinated as much as possible and would not leave you wondering where to put your new collections next.

What you could do is get a pen and paper then make a sketch as to what shape or how would you like your flower garden to look like. Afterwards, decide which plants should be your focal point and usually, the plants that are used as focal points are large deciduous trees followed by evergreens or hedges that are called “skeletons”. These plants are guaranteed to last for years so you know that they are low in maintenance and you can count on that they would still bloom after winter.

When you finally decide on your focal points and “skeletons”, the next that you should plan or choose for your flower garden design are the “decorative”. The “decorative” are the flowers and tall grasses that would then give color to your whole flower garden and remember that it is important to choose the right, blending color for them to seem harmonious. Lastly, you then choose of the “pretties” or the spring and summer blooming flowers like bulbs, perennials, annuals, or biennials.

And if you still want to know more about flower garden design and would like to get more creative ideas, the best book that you could purchase for reference is “John Brookes Garden Design” which was authored by John Brookes himself. He is an award-winning, British garden guru that is popular in the whole landscaping industry which makes his book a must-have for every gardening enthusiast.

If you are indeed blessed with a green thumb, there are few things more satisfying than vegetable gardening. You will enjoy the satisfaction of watching your plants grow from seed and then sprouting fruit, and you will save on your grocery bills when you can get much of your fresh produce right from your own backyard. Vegetable gardening is not as difficult as you might think, and once the initial costs to put in the garden are past, you will find that vegetable gardening can be quite economical as well. This is also a great activity to incorporate into a family hobby, since children can learn much from vegetable gardening and it give your entire brood the chance to spend plenty of time together.

Step One: Plan your Garden

What is your favorite veggie? Do you have a hankering for a juicy, red tomato, or are snap beans more your style. How about some fresh radishes or zucchini squash? The first part of planning your garden will be to determine which produce items you want to grow. Take your climate and zone into consideration as you make these decisions, to ensure that you will see success with your vegetable gardening efforts. You also want to think about how to group your plants to make your vegetable gardening easier and more fertile. For example, perennials like rhubarb and many herbs should be planted to one side, where they will not interfere with the garden planting in future years. It is also wise to group crops that will yield a crop earlier together, so that you can rework this area mid-season to put in late crops.

Step Two: Prepare your Soil

This is probably the most important step in successful vegetable gardening, but it doesn’t have to be a complicated one. Find a plot of ground in your yard that does not have too many rocks or is very sandy. Make sure that your bed will receive plenty of full sunlight during the day, and that it is close enough to a water source to make daily watering convenient. Add plenty of organic material and some fertilizer to the dirt and either plow or spade it in. Make sure that you use composted manure, and don’t add too much or you run the risk of burning your tender, new plants. If your garden bed is a previously unworked patch of ground, it is best to perform this step in the fall and allow the bed to sit through the winter before being planted.

Step Three: Plant your Seeds

Once your soil has been prepared properly, it is time to sow those seeds. If you measure and mark each row at the ends of your beds with a stick, and then tie a string to the stick on each side, you will have no trouble keeping your rows straight and even. Smaller seeds can be tapped lightly out of the container right into the ground, while larger seeds can go in individually. Water your seeds daily, and use a lighter mist until the seeds germinate to avoid washing them away.

Vegetable gardening can be a fun and rewarding hobby. And your family will be able to enjoy the “fruits” of your labor during the long, cold months of winter.

In order to maintain adequate fish habitat throughout the winter months, the use of solar ponds is continuing to grow. Initially designed to reduce salinity in the water near coastal towns, they are now used to improve aeration during the winter months as well as provide continuous pumping action to keep water pumps performing without the need to electric power

Larger ponds may accumulate algae on the surface, which can quickly overtake the surface of any pond or small lake, reducing the amount of sun and oxygen available for aquatic life. With solar ponds, pumps operate by solar power and charged batteries can automatically be switched to keep the pumps going all day and all night. This reduces the amount of algae growing in the water pumping the water into the air can add precious oxygen for the fish and other underwater life.

Many lakes will lose oxygen at the bottom, as will some farm and family ponds, reducing the amount of life in deeper waters. With solar ponds incorporating water pumps near the bottom of the body of water, air is pumped into the water, restoring the life that once was available. With air in the bottom, aerobic bacteria will quickly consume any dead organisms that float to the bottom of the pond, helping to keep it clean and from floating to the surface.

Restore Life To Dying Bodies Of Water

As ponds get older, the aging process slows its ability to fight off attack by algae and aeration of solar ponds can help breath new life into degraded lakes and ponds. It can also reduce the number of dead fish all year long as well as promote aquatic plant growth, a major food source for fish. Additionally, the air pumped into the water on top and on the bottom helps promote healthier fish growth.

Water will be clearer and cleaner and will keep the solar ponds open throughout the year for livestock and other wildlife that depends on the water source. Ammonia, phosphates and nitrites tend to accumulate in ponds causing a stagnant appearance and smell and constant aeration can reduce that drastically.

Organic pollutants are attracted to still ponds, stifling fish growth, reproduction and the number of fish the size of the pond can support. Aeration done with the help of solar ponds can reduce the pollutants, organic and inorganic, making the pond more hospitable to fish and other welcome wildlife.

If you have ever tried planting your own vegetable garden, you know how challenging the process can be even while you are having fun working on it. To ensure that your garden will thrive, it is best to follow vegetable gardening tips from gardeners that have “been there, done that” so that you can reap the benefits of their knowledge and experience. Since much of gardening has to rely on trial and error, grabbing a few vegetable gardening tips from experienced green thumbs may help you to avoid some of that trial and error, and produce a bountiful crop of your favorite fruits and veggies. There are plenty of places to find great gardening tips, from the Internet, gardening books, your local nursery and your next-door neighbor with a green thumb.

Vegetable Gardening Tips for Sowing

Many of the vegetable gardening tips that you hear may seem quite obvious - after you have learned them. For example, planting crops in rows that face north and south can help to ensure that your rows get more even sunlight exposure. This is a tip that you might not think of on your own, but makes perfect sense once you hear it from someone else. Another good tip is to plant slower growing crops in between the quicker harvests. This allows you to pull the faster growing crops like radishes early on to make room for the growth of the slower growing plants. Also, to allow for more effective pollination of corn crops, try planting your corn in blocks instead of row. With vegetable gardening tips like these under your belt, you will see a bigger harvest come fall.

Vegetable Gardening Tips for Watering and Fertilizing

There are also a number of vegetable gardening tips for watering and fertilizing that will help your crops to thrive once they germinate. For example, local gardeners can give you advice on the best times of day to water and how much water your plants will need as they grow. Water is an essential element in a healthy garden, since plants that become too dry are much more susceptible to disease. It is also best to find out from your local nursery the best type of fertilizing products for gardens in your area. One good vegetable gardening tip is to take a soil sample from your garden to your community extension office to have your soil evaluated, and find out what substances need to be added for a healthy crop.

Vegetable gardening is a process that most learn as they go. However, with a few key vegetable gardening tips under your belt from those who have gone before, you will enjoy greater success and satisfaction with your gardening efforts.

To add a focal point to landscaping many homeowners are choosing to add ponds and even small ponds can change the overall look of a yard or flower bed. It is not advised to attempt keeping fish in small ponds as there is usually not enough water to support more than one or two, but by adding aquatic plants they can present a totally different look to the landscaping.

However, if using small ponds large plants should not be located around them as they will hide them from view and ruin the intended appearance. Really small ponds, those less than two-feet in diameter should not pretend to be a focal point of the landscaping, as it will likely get lost in the overall view. Rather, it can be used to offset other, equally sized objects in the area.

Additionally, unless there is an aeration pump installed on the pond, it may require frequent water changing to prevent stagnant water from overtaking small ponds. Ideally, a small pump can be added with a figurine to keep the water in the pond moving, keeping algae growth to the minimum and keeping the water clear and clean. If installed near shrubs or under trees, be prepared to continually remove leaves and other yard debris from the water’s surface before it can sink to the bottom and clog the pump.

Installation Takes Little Time

With small ponds it requires little work to install and possibly the biggest obstacle will be in having an electric outlet installed near the pond’s location. A grounded outlet is required and most communities require professional installation. Once the outlet is installed, turn the pond upside down and mark the ground for digging the hole. Once complete, place the pond inside the hole and verify the top is level with or below the surface of the ground.

Fill small ponds with water before turning on the pump to prevent it from bring out while operating dry and then enjoy the music the water makes as it splashed through the pond. Small water figurines to match just about any taste can be found with additional statues to help move the water from the base through the pump and back into the pond.

There should also be an additional water supply handy to replace water lost due to evaporation or from people splashing in the water while doing yard work. Even small ponds can be the target for cooling off in the extreme heat.

Good Lighting

One of the basic things that you need to consider if you want to take good flower garden pictures is the lighting. If you intend to use daylight, take pictures only during the early morning or late afternoon. The early morning light especially around six to eight in the morning are ideal when taking outdoor pictures. At this time, the sun still gives out soft light that will enhance the color of the flowers. Furthermore, flowers usually look more vibrant in the morning especially during sunrise so take advantage of this situation. Many professional photographers do not like to take flower garden pictures after eight in the morning so if you want to get good results, follow their lead.

On the other hand, the late afternoon light especially around four to six in the afternoon will provide you will some dramatic play of light. If you want to have flower garden pictures with dramatic backgrounds, take your pictures just before sunset. If you are in a hot and humid part on the country, take you pictures are you have watered your flower gardens in the afternoon to make sure that the flowers do not look anemic and wilted.

Composing Your Pictures

Panoramic flower garden pictures can be very beautiful especially if you take it from an angle which brings out the best colors from the garden. To get the best flower garden pictures, take as many pictures as possible from different angles. Take wide and close crop pictures for variation. When taking pictures of flowers, you have to follow the natural symmetry of the flowers to give an illusion of energy. Avoid flat angles.

A yards landscape can be greatly enhanced by building a pond. These sometimes elegant and always attractive features give a yard a sense of completion. When deciding to build a pond the first step is deciding on the area that will be used. Clearing brush along ponds intended position can accelerate the building process.

Finding the Right Pond

In addition to clearing brush along ponds space, a design will need to be created. Use a rope, hose or even spray paint to mark down the shape of the pond. One factor that can influence the size of a pond is what type of pond this will be. A pond that will be about plants and flowers doesn’t necessarily have to be as big as a pond that will house Koi fish. Koi typically need a large space and the pond needs to adjust for that.

Another consideration is if a pre-fabricated liner will be used or another form of liner. The pre-fabricated liner is already pre-formed, so the shape of the pond is already made. The other form of liner allows for the pond to be constructed in any shape. Both types are sturdy and will work. A pre-fabricated liner may be easier to install, but if a specific design is in mind, the regular liner is the better choice.

Once the size has been determined, and clearing the brush along the ponds area taken care of, the hole can now be prepared. Dirt shelves may be dug in to hold pots containing plants. Pre-fabricated liners sometimes have this same shape for plants. Waterfalls can be added by gradually sloping the ends, or ready made waterfalls can be purchased. Make sure to dig a trench around the outside of the pond to install power access for pumps, filters and waterfalls. By clearing the brush along ponds outside area, the power will be easy to access.

Water plants can be added by placing appropriate soil amounts and types in pots with holes. Water plants have different needs so make sure to put together the right soil conditions for the plants. These planters can be topped with pea gravel to weigh down the soil and prevent fish from eating the plants.

Maintaining The Pond By Continuing To Clear Brush Along Ponds Area

Once the water utopia has been created, it is important to maintain the area. When clearing brush along ponds sides, be sure to prevent debris from falling into the pond. Filters can help, but preventing contamination in the first place can ease concerns about damage to plants and fish.

Clearing brush along pond sides can assist in a pond’s continued beauty and health.
